Abstract
The paper describes new developments in the electrodialysis (ED) and electrodialysis reversal (EDR) process and explains how EDR has achieved a major increase in the stability of membrane process performance. It reviews the growth in EDR usage and its installations for brackish water desalting, the wide spectrum of natural and man-made water salinities, and identifies areas where ED and EDR are now used and could be applicable as a result of the new developments.
