Abstract

AbstractMigrant women have increasingly entered the French labor market. Various observations, that include associations meetings and conferences, have shown the extent of the difficulties confronting migrant women. A major difficulty is obtaining resident permits to stay in France. Many women work, but find themselves limited to sectors offering only housework, cleaning, baby-sitting and care jobs, often in illicit work or partially legal activities. The difficulties which we stress in this article are based on two factors: those relating to life style reconciliation – such as demands imposed by daily routine, problems of finding baby-sitters, even arising from urban transportation – and those relating to non-respect of workers’ rights and different forms of discrimination.RésuméLes femmes immigrées en France cherchent de plus en plus souvent à travailler.
