Abstract

Four cases of dermoid cyst of the central nervous system are presented. The literature is reviewed together with the pathology, and the important point is brought forward that a lump in the midline axis posteriorly may represent a dermoid cyst with an intraspinal or intracranial extension. The risk of infection in an untreated cyst leading to scrious and fatal meningitis is stressed.
