Abstract

Factitious disorder is a disease with a varied clinical picture, which is why it is often a challenge in diagnosis and treatment. The condition is classified as a primary psychiatric disorder, but patients are often unaware of their condition, deny its existence and refuse treatment. It is a chronic disease that requires frequent visits to a dermatologist and a psychiatrist, because it has a high recurrence rate, can lead to self-injury and disfiguring scars. The paper describes a case of induced dermatosis manifested as ulceration in the area of the back. In agreement with a psychiatrist, the treatment was initiated with clinical improvement. In conclusion, the area of mutual interpenetration of dermatology and psychiatry is extensive and not fully understood. Although dermatological diseases usually do not directly threaten the life of patients, they result in a reduction in the quality of life, dysfunction in fulfilling social roles, and may even lead to suicide attempts.
