Dermatology of Black Skin

Abstract

Dermatology of Black Skin is an atlas that was written for dermatologists, other physicians, and allied health personnel caring for black patients, with the purpose of describing signs of skin diseases in blacks. The book was initially written in French by three dermatologists (from France, Haiti, and Senegal) and then translated into English. This book focuses on the significant differences between the manifestations of skin diseases in blacks and whites, the unique manifestations of these diseases in blacks, and the importance of recognizing skin diseases in blacks. The mission was successfully accomplished with fantastic clinical photographs and thumbnail descriptions about each of the dermatoses discussed. Although many of the photographs are of excellent quality, at least 10% are not in focus. Photographs in the sections on eczema, lichen planus, leprosy, and Kaposi's sarcoma were especially good in showing the clinical manifestations of dermatologic disorders in blacks.
