Abstract
Chetty R. Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans of the vulva. Int J Gynecol Cancer 1997; 7: 461–465. Two cases of dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) of the vulva and a literature review are hereby presented. In addition, the histopathological features and overlap with cellular benign fibrous histiocytoma, deep penetrating dermatofibroma, and solitary fibrous tumor are highlighted. Distinction from the former two conditions can be achieved by the pattern of extension into subcutaneous fat and CD34 immunopositivity in DFSP. The behavior of DFSP is invariably of local recurrence, unless complete excision is achieved. The role of Mohs micrographic surgery in achieving this is also addressed.
