Abstract

The reaction between titanium tetrachloride and acetyl acetone, ethyl acetoacetate, methyl acetoacetate and methyl salicylate has been studied and the compounds TiCl 2(acac) 2, TiCl 2(methyl acetoacetate) 2, TiCl 2(ethyl acetoacetate) 2 and TiCl 2(methyl salicylate) 2 have been isolated. The compound, [Zr(acac) 3]Cl, has also been prepared by the reaction between zirconium tetrachloride and acetyl acetone. By molecular weight measurements these compounds have been shown to be monomeric in nature rather than trimeric, as had been assumed by earlier workers.
