AbstractThe isomerization of trans‐2‐acetamido‐3‐hydroxy‐5,8‐dimethoxytetraline (1) under the action of hydrogen chloride was investigated. Hydrolysis of 5,8‐dimethoxy‐2‐methyl‐3a,4,9,9a‐tetrahydronaphth[2,3‐d]oxazoline hydrochloride (2) leads to cis‐2‐amino‐3‐hydroxy‐5,8‐dimethoxytetraline (3).
