Abstract

A new formula [eq. (15)] is derived, generalizing the Breit potential of quantum electrodynamics, to the Pauli coupling for particles with anomalous magnetic moments. These charge-dipole and dipole-dipole potentials contain two types of tensor forces depending on α and σ- matrices and reduce in the nonrelativistic limit to their usual assumed forms. The distinctions between the nonrelativistic induced spin terms coming from the Breit-potential and those coming from the Pauli-coupling are discussed.
