Abstract
The present paper develops a new methodology to derive the closure-free (effective) crack growth rate, d a/d N, from fatigue life data under biaxial loading conditions using the fracture mechanics approach. The derived d a/d N curve showed a good agreement with the measured crack growth rate data for 1045 steel. The method lowers largely the cost and time required to perform the conventional closure-free crack growth tests.
