Abstract

ABSTRACT The distribution and characteristics of derelict and vacant land in Scotland are reviewed. Urban localities in the Strathclyde and Lothian regions are revealed to have major concentrations, and Glasgow is shown to be particularly badly affected. Past mining activity is the major cause of dereliction, but the closure of manufacturing industry has also made a significant contribution in recent years.
