Abstract

This paper attempts to address some of the issues that Ludwig Janus (2021) has raised concerning the question of the renewal of psychoanalysis. This will involve taking a look at the conditions of »creative perception« in psychoanalytic work, particularly concerning the interplay between free association and free-floating attention. The main focus of the paper is on the relationship between the psychoanalytic and the prenatal situation and on the difficulties around conceptualising this relationship. Extracts from a child analysis exemplify how an 8-year-old boy created elements of the intrauterine world as a starting point for a new beginning.
