Abstract

Abstract This study analyses the negotiations between the Lutheran World Federation and the Vatican, initiated by the Vatican's official response to the Joint Declaration on the Doctrine of Justification (JDDJ) in June 25, 1998. The additional negotiations led to the emergence of new texts which were signed by both partners in October 31, 1999. The study undertakes a theological analysis of the negotiations and publishes a synopsis which documents the emergence of the new texts. The new texts provide answers to the issues raised in the response of the Vatican, but they do not go beyond the doctrinal stance of the JDDJ.
