Abstract

The fact that many modifications of the technique originally elaborated by Mckenzie and Stoughton for skin vasoconstriction assay have been introduced considerably complicates the task of making a comparative appraisal of the methods used and the results obtained. Despite the large sources of variance, the rank orders of most topical corticoids obtained in tests carried out according to widely varying techniques by many different investigators are relatively consistent. An effort should be made to achieve a higher degree of concordance between different investigators – which applies also to the rank intervals and absolute potency values – by devising and adhering to a standardized procedure.
