Abstract

Summary Cultivation media of the entomophagous fungus Beauveria bassiana, containing two proteolytic enzymes, were applied to purified cuticles of Galleria mellonella larvae. As seen from the results, the proteolytic enzymes (with the pH. optima 5 and 8) acted as toxins to Galleria mellonella larvae, on the one hand, and on the other hand, as enzymes which degrade the cuticle proteins. This was demonstrated both qualitatively by staining in situ the individual cuticle components and quantitatively by the decrease of total nitrogen in the substrate in dependence on time, as well as by the increase in amino nitrogen in the reaction medium.
