Abstract

Depth profile analyses by means of glow discharge optical spectroscopy (GDOS) has been performed on stainless steel SS 316 samples after 3 different modes of exposure in liquid lithium at 600° C. The figures represent the qualitative correlation between element concentration (intensity, arbitrary units) and the sputtered depth (sputtertime, seconds). Differences in depletion and enrichment of certain elements amongst others, have been attributed to the differences of the impurities, namely N and C in lithium.
