Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to examine the influence of stereoscopic 3D sports broadcasts on depth perception and spatial presence experience. Based on a repeated measures design the influences of dimension (2D vs. 3D), different scene layouts (camera distance vs. field of view) and sport disciplines (soccer vs. boxing) were considered. The results confirm a strong influence of 3D on both depth perception and spatial presence, as well as selective influences of camera distance, particularly in soccer. The field of view (small vs. large) did not play an important role.
