Abstract

Prevalence rates of the different forms of depression (depressive mood, depressive syndromes and Major Depression) have increased during recent years. Similarily, gender differences have augmented. Stress, dysfunctional coping styles, a negative body image, and an insecure attachment style have been identified as factors contributing to the etiology of depression. Different therapeutic approaches were presented with psychonanalytic treatment being the most comprehensive.
