Abstract

In a study of college students, 3.7% were found to be seriously depressed on a standardized self-report inventory and 22.6% to have some current suicidal preoccupation. In contrast, 18.4% of a sample of high school students were found to be seriously depressed and 34.4% to have some current suicidal preoccupation.
