Abstract

Coatings were produced by electric arc cladding with self-propagating high-temperature synthesis, based on a titanium carbonitride hard alloy and a cobalt binder. The results show that the deposited layer consists of three characteristic zones containing titanium carbide grades, distributed in the iron–cobalt matrix. The content of the titanium carbide grains in the coating reached 80%. The hardness of the deposited layer was 56–58 HRC. Industrial tests of the deposited areas of a jaw breaker in the zone of the effect of maximum loading showed that the rate of wear of the deposited layer is 1.5–2 times lower than the rate of wear of the lining made of 40Cr steel.
