Abstract

A study was made of the concentration decrease of aerosol in a polystyrene chamber. Losses to the walls of the plastic chamber due to electrostatic attraction were as high as 75% in 20 min. Using a dry aerosol dispersion technique, the wall-loss rate constant β was nearly independent of concentration but decreased with time. A spray aerosol dispersal technique from ethanol gave lower values of β, which were either constant or slightly decreasing with time. These differences have been attributed to electrical mobility distributions produced by the dispersal techniques.
