Abstract

A semiclassical impact-parameter method has been used to study the total depopulation of lowly excited ns-states of the Rb atom colliding with ground-state He in the thermal energy region. A fairly large basis set of STO has been used to generate MO states and then a 14-state calculation has been carried out to evaluate the total as well as individual cross sections for quenching. A comparative study with the previously investigated Li - He and Na - He pairs is also presented.
