Abstract

With the current economic slowdown, it is high time to reduce the production cost in order to survive in competitive business environment. Automatic identification practices refer to broad range technology that are normally used to identify the products without involvement of human factor. The auto ID used in the systems, linked with automatic recording of data. The automatic system of RFID helps us to know the present status of stock in the warehouse and in production units which will be helpful in the decision-making process of purchase department and operation department. In this paper, attempt has been made to study the feasibility of deploying radio frequency identification as a tool towards inventory management practice in steel manufacturing industry for reducing the cost of production and improving operational efficiency. A well designed and structured questionnaire was administered to collect data from 100 sample respondents by the use of purposive sampling technique. The findings of the study revealed that there is direct relationship in between RFID practices with firm’s operational performances. This study will contribute to the existing knowledge base as well as industry practitioners in the area of inventory management of steel manufacturing industry.
