Abstract

Network characteristics in the Internet of Things (large networks, dynamic and heterogeneous) increases the complexity in the design and provision of advanced services. This article mainly focuses on the creation of an overlay network architecture for end-to-end interconnection of networked (virtual or physical) objects, the support of distributed information fusion and the provision of advanced services in challenging (e.g. large scale, heterogeneous) environments. The proposed model follows a layered-design and aims at the provision of a generic framework that will facilitate the development and design of decentralized and autonomic services in Internet of Things deployments. In addition, we address many research issues that must be considered in designing the proposed model. Proposed model is validated through OverSim simulations of overlay networks.
