Abstract

The paper focused on the implementation of a digital institutional repository (DIR) at Lagos State University, Nigeria, beginning with an exploration of the perspectives of various researchers on the topic. It began with an introduction and examined fully, the essence and the necessity of deploying a digital institutional repository (DIR) in any institution as a veritable source of research materials form local contents. It examined very deeply, the obstacles in the deployment and looked at the „whys‟ of DIR and its objectives. Works on this in some other climes, especially in Hitotsubashi University Japan was discussed. The steps and the layers and especially the models of uploading manuscripts into LASU- Digital Institutional Repository (DIR) was explained. The paper which concluded by the strengths and weaknesses of digital institutional repository (DIR), globally represented the journey of manuscripts in a flowchart of operations.
