Abstract

A quantitative relationship has been established between yields of thermal degradation products (methyl alcohol and methyl methacrylate) of methacrylate copolymers with lithium, sodium and potassium salts of methacrylic acid and component structure of copolymer macromolecules. The differences between experimental and estimated values of methyl alcohol yields were substantially reduced by changing from estimation methods based on the dyad copolymer composition to methods based on the triad and tetrad copolymer composition. It has been demonstrated that the sum total of the square of these differences is considerably lower than the sums obtained without considering the macromolecular structure. Methyl methacrylate yields from thermal degradation of the above copolymers of MMA with MA have been calculated and compared with experimental results for the first time.
