Abstract

We have determined the characteristics of exchange bias in Co-Ni/FeMn bilayers with a fixed FeMn thickness of 150 \AA{} but Co-Ni layer with different magnetizations by varying its composition. The exchange coupling energy $\ensuremath{\Delta}\ensuremath{\sigma}{=H}_{E}{t}_{\mathrm{FM}}{M}_{\mathrm{FM}}$ is not constant, but varies as ${c(M}_{\mathrm{FM}}{)}^{1/2},$ due to the local magnetic field from the ferromagnetic layer that dictates the spin structure of the antiferromagnetic layer during field cooling.
