Abstract

We propose an interpretation of light ion beam irradiation experiments on YBa 2Cu 3O 7 − δ films. We analyze the intragranular effects which are due to intrinsic properties of these superconductors. A depairing analysis of the irradiation-induced reduction in the corresponding superconducting (onset) transition temperature T c accounts for the experimental results. Comparison with thermal desorption results leads us to conclude that depairing in YBa 2Cu 3O 7 − δ is essentially due to the removal of oxygen from the Cu-O chains.
