Dentro do segredo: uma viagem pela Coreia do Norte: Análise da Obra de José Luís Peixoto

Abstract

This semester's work was done under the Intercultural Studies curricular unit and consists in the analysis of the chosen work, according to some concepts covered throughout a semester of classes. In this case, the work chosen was the book Dentro do Segredo – Uma Viagem pela Coreia do Norte, written by the famous young Portuguese writer Jose Luis Peixoto, whose first edition was published in November 2012 by Quetzal Editores. I chose it because I found the theme of the work quite interesting as well as unique, in the sense that it gives us a perspective of what goes on inside the most isolated dictatorship in the world, North Korea. And from that point of view, it also becomes a very important tool to study and understand that remote culture, looking at it through the eyes of the writer. Finally, the work provides us with a dichotomous relationship between Western freedoms and ideals and North Korean repression, and it is this relationship that I will try to interpret.
