Abstract

A white Caucasian 19-month-old female presented at the hospital emergency department with a complete perforation of the lower lip sustained after falling while attempting to ambulate. She previously had been diagnosed with pontine tegmental cap dysplasia, resulting in severe developmental delays. The lip was subsequently repaired on multiple occasions by the plastic surgeon due to wound dehiscence after repeated irritation by the patient's parafunctional lip habits, abrasion by the upper and lower incisors, and intolerance of a pre-fabricated bite splint.
