Abstract

Recent research and our previous work have shown the existence of dental epithelial stem cells (DESC) in the continuous growing mouse incisor cervical loops. Some markers have been identified for marking these DESC, including Sox2, Lgr5, and CD49f (intergrin alpha6). In some organs, stem cells are uniquely poised to serve as tumor cells of origin. Whether DESC are present in ameloblastoma and serve as tumor cells of origin remains unclear.
