Abstract

Experimental results of density, viscosity, refractive index, and speed of sound in mixtures of 2-ethoxyethanol with n-alkanes (C 6 to C 12 ), 2,2,4-trimethylpentane, and cyclohexane are presented over the entire composition range at 298.15, 303.15, 308.15, and 313.15 K. These results are fitted simultaneously with mixture composition and temperature to an empirical equation. The computed values of excess molar volume and deviations in viscosity, molar refractivity, speed of sound, and isentropic compressibility are fitted to the Redlich-Kister polynomial equation to estimate the adjustable parameters and standard deviations. The effect of the size and shape of the alkanes on excess quantities is discussed. Excess molar volumes and deviations in viscosities show a systematic increase with increasing temperature. However, the deviations in molar refractivities are not dependent on temperature
