Abstract

The density of states of a three-dimensional non-interacting electron gas under the influence of a white noise potential and a strong magnetic field is examined. It is shown that for the lowest Landau level the density of states may be obtained from the eigenvalue of an ordinary differential equation. The numerical results are compared with the density of states of a one-dimensional system with a white noise potential. For the Lifshitz tail the density of states is investigated by the instanton method.
