Abstract
Densities of excited neon atoms in the 3P 2 (s 5) and 3P 1 (s 4) states have been measured in the positive column of a 100 torr neon-gas discharge using the flourescence technique. The densities have been determined as a function of the radial position and the discharge current using a tunable CW dye laser. Flourescence spectra have been measured for different laser input wavelengths. Reaction coefficients for transitions induced by electrons and atoms between the p 2 and p 4 levels have been determined.
