Abstract

A novel approach to two-pulse photon echo is offered. It employs the total (nonreduced) density matrix of an electron-phonon system. Dephasing processes resulting from electron-phonon interaction in crystals and from electron-tunnelon interaction in amorphous solids are considered by a nonperturbative method. The echo signal function is expressed via functions of band shapes which include both zero-phonon lines and phonon side bands of absorption and emission spectra.
