Abstract

Abstract The DGM working group on preparation initiated a round robin test to measure the Archimedean density of a standardized tensile test bar for porous sintered steels. Moreover, a density determination should be performed by quantitative image analysis of the porosity in a cross-section of the bar. In total, 13 laboratories participated at least partially. With the exception of a few outliers, the Archimedean density was measured within a span of 7.07 and 7.18 g/cm³. On average, the density determined by image analysis did not differ by more than 0.6 % from the Archimedean density. The source of greatest error for the image analysis proved to be the preparation of the unetched microsection.
