Density and temperature profiles measured in the mesosphere and lower thermosphere during winter anomaly conditions

Abstract

In the altitude region between 52 and 117 km measurements of total density and temperature were performed by Pitot tubes, mass spectrometers and H-Lyman-α photometers. These data were obtained during the Western European Winter Anomaly Campaign 1975/76 under highly disturbed conditions. Substantial deviations from the CIRA (1972) model are found, which indicate pronounced wavelike disturbances in the atmosphere.
