Abstract

Erigeron canadensis is an annual plant of the Asteraceae family, widely distributed in rural and urban areas of Poland and other European countries, which has been reported to be resistant to almost all kinds of herbicide. It has been used in folk medicine to treat diarrhea and as a hemostatic agent, and also has anti-inflammatory, diuretic, and antiseptic activity. The plant is reported to contain tannins, flavonoids, phenolic acids, and sphingolipids; its essential oil is rich in limonene and β-ocimene. A simple densitometric TLC method has been established for analysis of monogalactosyldiacylglycerol (MGDG) and digalactosyldiacylglycerol (DGDG) in extracts of fresh samples of Erigeron canadensis collected at different stages of growth.
