Abstract

ObjectiveTo describe the corneal endothelial cell density and morphology in a sample of young adults of Torreon, Coahuila, Mexico. Material and methodsCross-sectional, prospective, descriptive, observational study was performed including 60 eyes of 30 healthy young adults. A study of non-contact specular microscopy was performed after answered sociodemographic and heredofamilial questionnaire. The analysis of the parameters included measures of corneal endothelial cell density, number of cells to be studied, average cell size, coefficient of variation and corneal thickness. ResultsThe average cell density was 2632.03±272.19cel/mm2 (P=.765), the average cell size was 383.6±42.19μm2 (P=.837), the average coefficient of variation was 42.55±9.23 (P=.689)and an average corneal thickness was 517.22±33.32μm. ConclusionsThe results in our study are similar to those reported in the literature, but should be interpreted in the context of a young adult population, being desirable to expand the sample size by age and catalog to generalize to the population of northern Mexico.
