Abstract

Abstract We show that an optimal dense coding protocol D can be constructed with genuine multipartite entangled states, one-dimensional cluster states. We also give a teleportation scheme T by using the one-dimensional cluster states. Both D and T reveal some intrinsic entanglement properties of the one-dimensional cluster states, and indicate that we may in a sense extract the amount of entanglement of n 2 Bell states (or n − 3 2 Bell states plus a tripartite GHZ state) from an n-particle one-dimensional cluster state. Our schemes can also be used to implement controlled quantum communication.
