Abstract

The Danish energy situation has changed drastically since the 1970s when Denmark was completely dependent on imported oil. Today, Denmark has a diversified energy supply, a high degree of self sufficiency and a successful energy efficiency programme implemented. In this article, the author gives his personal view of the background for this development and points out some of the future challenges that Denmark is facing.
