Abstract

Fiber-diameter and denier distributions of various size tows have been determined with the Coulter Counter, an instrument consisting of a sensing unit and a digital counter. The methods developed for sample preparation, instrument operation, and efficient data reduction are described. A critical comparison of the results with results of other denier measuring techniques is made, and the advantages and limitations of the method at present and its future potential are discussed.
