Abstract

PREVIEWAutoimmune thyroid disease can take various forms, from the subtle symptoms of subclinical hypothyroidism to the palpable goiters and extrathyroidal manifestations of Graves' disease. Recognition of the clinical spectrum of these disorders is an important first step in management. In this article, Dr Fatourechi describes the pathogenesis and differential diagnosis of autoimmune thyroid disease and discusses current treatment recommendations.
