Abstract

The digital color cameras sample scenes using a color filter array of mosaic pattern (e.g. the Bayer pattern). Demosaicking is a digital image process used to reconstruct a full color image from the incomplete color samples output from an image sensor. The demosaicking of the color samples is critical to the quality of digital photography. This paper presents an advancement of using CMY color filter array rather than RGB color filter array for color demosaicking technique of optimal directional filtering. From the implementation of CMY color filter array(CFA) rather than RGB color filter array we have seen a good increase in PSNR values which is a basic parameter in analyzing the reconstructed image. For the same set of images the PSNR is calculated using Bayer RGB pattern CFA and using CMY CFA. The experimental results show that the presented color demosaicking technique outperforms the existing methods in PSNR measure.
