Abstract
This paper describes a fault tolerant CORBA infrastructure for a simple air defense application in which the interception management and guidance program is replicated over three computers to protect it against faults. The fault tolerant CORBA infrastructure maintains continuous service of the interception management and guidance program, through faults and recovery, and maintains strong replica consistency, despite asynchrony and faults. With the fault tolerant CORBA infrastructure, fault tolerance is achieved with minimal modification of the application program, no special programming skills and shorter program development timescales. The fault tolerant CORBA infrastructure being demonstrated was developed originally under DARPA sponsorship at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and is now available commercially from Eternal Systems Incorporated.
