Abstract

Study Objective: This video presents footage of an office based partial endometrial ablation device-gynABLATE™ tested through the Sutter Institute of Medical Research in Sacramento, CA. Partial endometrial ablations are used to treat menorrhagia without causing long term complications that are now being recognized following total or global ablations. Currently, partial ablations can only be performed in a hospital or surgery center using a resectoscope with a rollerball or loop electrode. At this time there are no devices available to perform a partial endometrial ablation in an office setting and is the reason gynABLATE™ is under development. The advantages of gynABLATE™ include direct visualization of device placement, minimal cervical dilatation (7 mm) and short treatment time (90 seconds). In this presentation, gynABLATE™ was used on hysterectomy specimens with the goal of showing an equivalent tissue response to the already established partial rollerball endometrial ablation.
