Abstract
A large range of biochemical and metabolic tests are frequently used to differentiate between rhizobial species. These tests include vitamin requirements, salt, acid and alkali tolerance, carbohydrate utilization, and resistance to antibiotics. Carbohydrate utilization properties are of taxonomic significance, while resistance to low levels of antibiotics can be used for rhizobial strain characterization and identification.
