Abstract

Demonetization was a big shock in Indian economy. Indian people responded differently to this demonetization shock. More than eighty percent of the common people favored the government decision to demonetize higher denomination in spite of their sufferings. Some people vehemently opposed the steps taken by the government and some experts were skeptical about this policy. So, there was a mixed response. The present paper is an attempt to explain this behavioral pattern of different groups of people during demonetization applying dual concern model. The model shows that the resolution to conflict due to demonetization was from “fighting” and “forcing” to “compromise” through remonetization.
