Abstract

In the centre of New York City's bustling garment district, the artist, Michael Berkowitz, quietly works in his studio. Although Berkowitz is not yet a house-hold name in the art world, he is one of many talented and committed contemporary artists working with themes of healing, spirituality, and wholeness; one artist trying to have a positive impact on his society. This is not particularly surprising in the case of Berkowitz, who grew up in an orthodox Jewish home, and has always regarded religion as a prime force in his life.
