Abstract

Broadening of the control over school examinations at 16-plus is recommended in a government White Paper issued in October. The proposal is for a single, new national examination for a General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE), replacing the present General Certificate of Education (GCE) Ordinary Level and the Certificate of Secondary Education (CSE) examinations.
